Woensel-West: Redesign Street
The Woensel-West neighborhood is currently undergoing significant changes and adjustments. However, part of the area lags behind due to the frequent use of streets by motorists, who dominate the roadways. This has a negative impact on safety and livability, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists.
In addition, sidewalks are often used as bike parking spaces, which limits pedestrian access and further compromises traffic safety. The current streetscape does not adequately support an inviting and safe environment for slow traffic, which is essential for an inclusive and livable neighborhood.
The assignment focuses on developing a redevelopment plan for the street with the aim of creating a safer and more accessible environment. The emphasis lies on applying passive design strategies, such as traffic-calming measures, optimizing the layout of public spaces, and encouraging use by pedestrians and cyclists.
The final plan should not only improve traffic safety but also enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the street, addressing the needs of local residents. Considerations such as greening, smart layouts, and sustainable solutions can be incorporated into the design.
