In this project, students explored the redevelopment of the former factory at Langenhorsterweg 6, near the hamlet of Deldenerbroek in the municipality of Hof van Twente. This industrial heritage site, with its two distinctive tall buildings from 1914, has a long history, ranging from dairy production to chemical cleaning products. Since activities ceased in 2018, discussions have taken place with stakeholders to explore the future possibilities for the site.
The group first conducted a site visit, after which Emma Kaandorp carried out an extensive analysis to map out the site’s potential and limitations. Based on these insights, she developed the urban design.
Following this, three architecture students – Jurre Nauta, Koen Oosterbaan, and Timo Megens – each worked on different design variations. Each of them developed their own vision for the factory’s redevelopment, focusing on both heritage preservation and innovative spatial solutions.
This research has provided valuable insights for the site’s future redevelopment and demonstrates how the combination of analysis and creative design can contribute to a sustainable transformation of industrial heritage.
