The estate “Sint Anna” is located in Venray, Limburg. Built in 1908, the site served as a psychiatric hospital in the past. Our client IKVA helps people in the construction of their life and social environments: they basically help all kinds of people with ‘living’. Now, in addition to their word, they want to renovate “Villa Benoit” on the Sint Anna estate into residences for elderly; a place where they want to grow old together.
This dream of IKVA brings a lot of interesting assignments to the TU, reaching all kinds of disciplines.
- As an architecture student, you can contribute to the assignment by thinking about the design of Villa Benoit or maybe even other buildings on the Sint Anne estate. How are the dwellings planned in the villa? What do the dwellings look like? How do you build homes which will cost the right amount of money?
- The work of a building physicist can contribute to different themes. IKVA already has plans to implement “systeembouw” (system building) in the villa. What would these elements look like? Another theme is sustainability. The organization for example would love to work with solar energy. How could this be implemented in the specific building and its residents?
- As structural design student your focus will probably lay outside of the building: IKVA wants to reconstruct a timber structure outside of the building.
- For the urbanism student it is the whole estate, maybe even Venray in total, which is interesting. What does the villa and its new function mean in its new context? What is the societal meaning of this new group of residents? What will happen with the infrastructure of the estate? And so on.
